The Business Advisory Service Providers Association of Ghana (BASPAG), in collaboration with the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana and supported by USAID through the Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment initiative, has launched an innovative digital marketplace, the Business Development Service (BDS) App. The “BDS GH,” platform is designed to connect SMEs with business advisory services, enhance resource access, and foster collaboration among stakeholders.
Under the theme “Empowering Ghanaian Agribusiness: Unlocking Growth through Digital Innovation”, the launch event highlighted the significant role the BDS application will play in driving sustainable growth across the agribusiness sector and beyond.
The Chief of Party of the Ghana Trade and Investment program, Mr. Nikaj Van Wees expressed his confidence in the app’s potential, describing it as a catalyst for development. He emphasized that the platform will leverage existing resources to ensure all businesses, regardless of size, can thrive. Mr. Van Wees stressed the app’s role in promoting inclusivity and collaboration, bringing together businesses, consultants, and partners to drive innovation and shared prosperity.
The CEO of the Chamber of Agribusiness, Mr. Anthony Morrison, spoke about the app’s alignment with global development goals, specifically SDG 9, which focuses on fostering innovation and building resilient infrastructure, and SDG 17, aimed at strengthening partnerships. He emphasized that the app will not only enhance technological advancements but will also serve as a tool for collaborative efforts, reinforcing Ghana’s position as a hub for agribusiness development.
The BASPAG President, Mr. Sam Zeph Atiemo described the app as a bridge to connect SMEs with vital business support opportunities. Drawing on his own experience, Atiemo shared how the app could reduce the costs and time associated with physically reaching clients, such as traveling long distances to remote areas. He explained that the platform will facilitate immediate connections between accredited consultants and SMEs, enhancing productivity and expanding access to markets.
Atiemo outlined the app’s potential to support 5,000 SMEs across various sectors, including agribusiness, health, education, and renewable energy. Through BASPAG’s efforts, the app is expected to drive approximately $5 million in sales and facilitate $50 million in financing in the short to medium term.
The Director of Business Support at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), Mr. Franklin Karikari, highlighted government’s support for the initiative. He emphasized the role the app will play in nurturing young entrepreneurs within the agribusiness sector, particularly in enhancing food security.
