As Ghana intensifies efforts to address climate change while creating jobs and strengthening local enterprises, carbon markets are emerging as a powerful tool for sustainable growth. A new initiative is opening doors for women-led and gender-smart green SMEs in Ghana to access carbon credit opportunities, attract investment, and scale their environmental impact — particularly within agriculture and nature-based sectors.

Why Carbon Credits Matter for Agriculture
Agriculture remains one of Ghana’s most climate-vulnerable sectors, yet it also holds immense potential for climate solutions. Sustainable farming practices, agroforestry, climate-smart irrigation, organic soil management, and nature-based solutions can all generate measurable carbon reductions or removals. Through carbon markets, these climate actions can be monetised, creating new revenue streams for agribusinesses while strengthening resilience.
However, many SMEs lack the technical expertise and financial support needed to access these markets. This programme directly addresses that gap.
What the Programme Offers
The initiative is designed to support gender-smart green SMEs to become investment-ready and carbon-market compliant. Selected businesses will benefit from:
- Tailored technical assistance to understand and access carbon markets
- Group and one-on-one coaching from industry experts
- Investor linkages for high-impact, scalable enterprises
- Catalytic grants of €25,000 each for two outstanding SMEs
Beyond funding, the programme focuses on long-term capacity building, enabling SMEs to integrate climate finance into their growth strategies.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible applicants must:
- Operate in sectors such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, clean cooking, sustainable mobility, circular economy, or nature-based solutions
- Be for-profit and legally registered in Ghana
- Have at least three years of operation and two years of audited accounts
- Demonstrate positive social and environmental impact
- Employ between 5 and 200 staff, with gender-diverse teams encouraged
- Commit fully to the 20-week programme
Government institutions, non-profits, academic institutions, and individuals are not eligible.
A Strategic Opportunity for Agribusinesses
For agribusinesses and agri-SMEs, this initiative represents more than funding. It is an opportunity to align sustainable agricultural practices with global climate finance, improve competitiveness, and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s green economy.
As climate finance becomes increasingly important, SMEs that act early will be better positioned to attract investors, create jobs, and drive inclusive growth.
Eligible enterprises are encouraged to apply and take a strategic step toward scaling their climate and agricultural impact.
