The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has disclosed the government’s commitment to invest $200 million to expand  tree  crop production in Ghana, with special focus on the cashew industry as a major beneficiary.

She made the disclosure on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the closing gala dinner of the 2026 African Cashew Alliance Annual Cashew Conference and Expo.

Ofosu-Adjare says the investment will scale up tree crop production and strengthen Ghana’s value chain in the areas where the cashew industry has significant potential.

“The government of Ghana is committing approximately $200 million to tree crop production, of which cashew stands to benefit substantially,” the Minister says.

She called for business collaboration in cashew-producing countries that view one another as partners rather than competitors in the global export market.

While urging greater cooperation to build a stronger and more competitive African cashew industry, Ofosu-Adjare says, “I entreat every delegation in this room from Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mozambique and beyond to see one another not as competitors for the same export market, but as partners in an African cashew industry.

The Minister further invited development partners and the private sector to support Ghana’s cashew industry, particularly in the areas of processing infrastructure, grading technology and certification.

“To our development partners and investors, the door is open. Invest in our processing infrastructure, our grading technology and our certification, just to mention a few,” she added.

The investment forms part of broader efforts to expand Ghana’s tree crop sector, increase value addition and strengthen the country’s participation in international  agricultural markets.

Ghana’s tree crop development agenda focuses on six key economic crops: coconut, cashew, oil palm, mango, rubber and shea industries, with a view to “achieving long-term commercial productivity and sustainability, while providing a higher contribution to the national economy of Ghana,” the Tree Crop Development Authority says on its website
