In a quest to diversify the food system and promote sustainable plant-based alternatives, Talmond Limited is making waves with its innovative approach to the neglected tropical almond.
Often overlooked, this nut held Ghanaian childhood memories of cracking open its fleshy fruit and savoring the delicious kernel inside. Determined to introduce the world’s first tropical almond milk and other food products, Talmond Limited was born.

Plant-based milks have gained popularity as a dairy milk alternative, benefiting both our planet and the health of lactose-intolerant individuals. Talmond recognizes the advantages of a plant-based diet, including social justice, health benefits, animal welfare, and environmental conservation.
Of all the plant milks consumed globally, conventional almond milk stands out. However, its production is water-intensive, with an average water footprint of 12 liters per almond, making it one of the highest water-consuming crops. Talmond Limited offers a solution by utilizing the tropical almond, which requires no irrigation water to grow in Ghana.

With the introduction of the tropical almond, Talmond Limited is bringing a novel, protein-rich food to the plant-based movement. This almond variety boasts nutritional benefits comparable to conventional almonds while being much more environmentally friendly.
In an interview with agrighanaonline.com, Head of Extension and Outreach at Talmond Limited, Dr. Eva Agana, shares exciting insights into Talmond’s mission and some of the strategies devised to ensure sustainability.
“We aim to encourage more individuals to grow this indigenous crop, starting from the Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions of Ghana, while also sourcing supplies from other countries. We will empower farmers, creating markets for a crop that was once overlooked.”
Even before the full impact of Talmond Limited is felt, it is important to note how their remarkable journey is transforming lives and creating new value chains for the neglected tropical almonds. Through their visionary approach, Talmond is paving the way for sustainable, nutritious, and delicious plant-based alternatives, all while promoting environmental conservation and economic empowerment.
