Mr. William Amueh, a physically challenged farmer, is urging institutions, charity organisations, the government, individuals, and the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly to support him with a tricycle to transport his farm produce to the market.
He appealed to the Ministry of Agriculture to strengthen partnership with other companies to ensure a ready market for farmers.
Mr. Amueh from Akpo, a farming community, was adjudged the best physically challenged farmer” in the Yilo Krobo Municipality at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration.
The Yilo Krobo Municipal event was held at Huhunya, near Nkurakan, under the national theme: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the future” to recognise and celebrate the contributions of hard working farmers sacrificing their lives to feed the country.
The event showcased agricultural innovations, strategic partnership and technology, aimed at strengthening the nation’s food systems, securing food security, and improving resilience and sustainable agriculture.
Mr. Amueh told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that his situation encouraged him to go into farming to take care of his children in school.
He has been into farming of vegetables and Cocoa farming for over 40 years.
However, carrying the products from the bush was a difficult task, hence, the critical need for the tricycle, he said.
Mr. Amueh, a father of two, was among 23 farmers awarded in areas including maize, tomatoes, cassava, oil palm, livestock, mango, pepper, and cabbage farming.
The awardees received certificates and medals as part of their farming inputs including spraying machines, personal protective gears, organic bags of fertilizers, wheelbarrows, and others.
Mr. Amueh encouraged his fellow people with disabilities to use their skills and knowledge to venture into meaningful areas to better their livelihoods and stop begging on the streets.
