The Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr.Owusu Afriyie Akoto on Wednesday 9th March, 2022 performed the swearing in ceremony of the newly approved  Board of Directors for the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture conference room.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto said the board must explore the full potential of GIDA and help management come out with policies and programmes that will increase the company’s revenue.

The Board Chair Mr Osei Owusu Agyeman expressed his appreciation to the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity given to them to serve the Country in another capacity and also Hon. Owusu Afriyie Akoto Minister for Food and Agriculture for the opportunity to contribute to the development of Ghana specifically, in the Food and Agriculture sector, which undoubtedly has seen a massive improvement in resilience and growth.

Mr Agyeman said it is a privilege to farm on an irrigated land because the other colleague farmer’s efforts are constrained by weather. Therefore, we would ensure that water for irrigation is utilized responsibly and judiciously.

Mr Osei Owusu Agyeman said that it is increasingly becoming evident that to access funding as well as attract the youth and middle class into farming, there is urgent need to make the scope of farming operations predictable and measurable. Irrigation is a key cutting-edge tool for achieving these objectives. Therefore. Our goal would be to relentlessly promote the use of irrigation in all sectors of our agricultural transformation under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme of Mofa.

The board member is Mr. Osei Owusu Agyeman, Ing. Wilson K. Darkwa, Mr Kwaku Waife, Mr George Prah, Mrs Gladys Mamtee Osabutey, Prof. Yaw Osei-Atweneboana, Dr. Edward Yeboah, Dr. Samuel Kwame Kumahor, Ing. Peter De-Veer, Nana Owusu Achiaw, Mr Suraj Boadi
