The SNV Ghana Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities (GrEEn) Project has organised a job fair for the youth at Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region. The GrEENn Job Fair is one of the activities to complement government’s job creation efforts.

Also, it creates a platform for job seekers to be matched with job openings and internship; thus exposing participants to career pathway opportunities within the green and circular economy, especially in SNV’s three thematic areas: water, sanitation and hygiene, agriculture and renewable energy.

Again, it is to raise awareness about the green and circular economy as well as contributing to market access and linkages through the exhibition of green solutions and innovations; and inspiring young people to seek and explore green job opportunities and solutions.

The job fair brought together hundreds of youth from some districts in the Western Region. Topics discussed included CV writing, interview presentation, job description, review and cover-letter writing presentation, as well as labour-law regulations, employment regulatory requirements, how to start a small business, and how to think like an entrepreneur, among others.

Dorcas Hammond, Skills Development Advisor-SNV Ghana GrEEn Project, at the job fair pointed out that last month SNV signed a Memorandum of Understating with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to promote the implementation of its National GrEEn Jobs Strategy.

She noted that although government has instituted various policies and structures to address youth unemployment, Ghanaian youth however still face unemployment and underemployment. “The onset of COVID-19 has further worsened the situation, due to closure of some Small and Medium Enterprises which employ the youth,” she said

Henrietta Eyeson, Ahanta West Municipal Chief Executive, lauded SNV Ghana for such an initiative that will open job opportunities for the youth. There were exhibitors from Roland Rice, Gina Fill Foods, Integrated Farm Facility, ICODE hub, Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, among others.
