The maiden edition of the Ghana Chicken Festival (GHACHICK) is set to come off on the 3rd of May 2021 at Coconut Grove Regency hotel, Accra.

The event which is designed to elicit interest in the consumption of poultry products will also help create sustainable awareness on the nutritional value of poultry products among Ghanaians.

The project is a joint initiative by USDA-Ghana Poultry Project and Agri-house Foundation, conceived to bring families together in a recreational atmosphere to savour locally produced chicken and other allied poultry products.

According to Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Executive Director –Agri-house Foundation, the initiative is expected to be an annual feature on the event calendar of the poultry industry, and will in the long run seek to be the most prominent platform for the promotion and exhibition of poultry and its allied products.

“The mammoth potential in the local poultry sector is one that thrills us at Agri-house. We have thus joined forces with USDA-Ghana Poultry Project to create what we believe will be an effectual and sustainable platform for the promotion and consequent growth of poultry in Ghana.

The event is thoroughly formulated to create fun and excitement for all participants regardless of age and background. We therefore expect all-and- sundry to throng the venue for the event on the stated date to experience something uniquely enthralling.” She said.

The core objectives of the initiative will among other things seek to encourage the purchase and consumption of local poultry to Ghanaians; create a platform for households, stakeholders to be educated and informed about the significance of consuming locally bred birds (chicken, guinea fowl and turkey) coupled with informative fun-filled activities that engages and entertains family and friends.

The initiative is also aimed at increasing the number of local poultry producers in the country while also encouraging corporate investment toward local poultry production.

The atmosphere expected to be created at the event will provide families and households, religious and social groups, corporate organisations, local poultry producers/farmers, agribusiness start-ups a unique opportunity to have fun, network and transact brisk business.

Families and other participants at the event will savour delicacies prepared by local chefs who will be on hand to serve mouth-watering poultry delicacies.

A key component of the event is a CEO Chef competition that will see Heads of Corporate entities compete for bragging-rights to the accolade of best CEO-Chef. This competitive slant to the event is expected to add even more spice to the fun-format of the event.

To cater for the fun needs of families, games like: Draughts, Oware, Scrabble, Ludo and Monopoly have been embedded into the event programme. Similarly, side attractions like cotton candy, face painting, bouncy castles will seek to engage children at the event.

The event is a single day event and will take the form of an outdoor garden party with live band music and other side attractions that encourages relaxations and merriment.
