After President John Dramani Mahama delivered the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SoNA) to Ghana’s Parliament, some residents of Hohoe have praised several key aspects of the speech.
They spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in areas including agriculture, education and the economy.
President Mahama said government was working to fulfil the promise of establishing Farmer Services Centres across the country to modernise agriculture.
He added that procurement processes were underway for a total of 660 tractors, 400 combine harvesters and more than 4,000 agricultural machines and implements.
Madam Alice Adjei, a trader said as farmer who sells her own products, access to labour was becoming a problem.
She said the centres would be of a great help and hope they would also be affordable for every farmer.
President Mahama also spoke about taxes government abolished such as the E-Levy, Betting and Emission Taxes as well as the Covid-19 levy.
Mr Kasim Adams, a taxi driver said government must be commended for “removing” Covid-19 levy because the diseases were no more and paying a tax on it was not right.
He appealed to government to ensure price reductions and stability on spare parts to help drivers.
,said in order to expand access to higher education, support balanced regional growth, and meet the rising demand for quality tertiary education, government entered international partnerships to establish two public universities.
He said they would be located in Kintampo, Bono East Region, and in Jasikan, Oti Region.
Mr Sam Aboagye, a retiree told GNA that a university in Jasikan was strategically positioned and would greatly serve the Oti region.
He said the university in addition to the existing College of Education would mean more development and economic growth.
Mr Aboagye commended the President and government for the vision to develop the additional six regions.
Article 67 of the 1992 Republican Constitution mandates the President to deliver a message on the State of the Nation.
