The chiefs in Nkoranza have pledge their support to ensure farmers especially maize farmers within their jurisdiction gets the right prices for their produce.

The Nifahene of Nkoranza Traditional area in the Bono East Region, Nana Kwabena Tetteh made this statement in an interview with Derofm during a stakeholders and capacity workshop in Nkoranza.

The focused of the workshop is on building the marketing strategies, standardization and how a bag on maize should be measured for farmers in Nkoranza.

Nana Kwabena Tetteh stated that rural maize farmers are always disadvantaged when it comes to getting market for their produce, hence, buyers or dealers take advantage to either purchase at a far cheaper price, causing financial loss to the farmers.

He indicated strongly that the “Nananom” thus, the chiefs from the traditional area are ready to back the move to use the scaling system in measuring bags of maize. This is because farmers run at a big loss running the old system by measuring with  sacks.

He stated that Nkoranza North and South used to produce maize more than any other traditional area in the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regions but due to the losses to farmers in measuring with sacks, maize farming in gradually dying out in the area.

“We the chiefs will take it up and push for the use of scales in measuring maize at the markets with Nkoranza North and South”. Nana Kwabena Tetteh added.
