Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has met with the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, to discuss strategies for strengthening the agricultural value chain and promoting agribusiness development in the region.

Mr Opoku paid a working visit to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) as part of his nationwide tour to assess agricultural programmes and engage stakeholders on improving food production and security.

Dr Amoakohene emphasised the central role of agriculture in the region’s economy, noting that the sector continued to sustain livelihoods, enhance food security, and drive rural development.

The discussions focused on addressing persistent challenges such as post-harvest losses and limited agro-processing capacity, which continue to constrain growth in the agricultural sector.

Both parties explored strategic interventions aimed at improving storage systems, promoting value addition, and attracting private investment into agro-industrial processing.

The Regional Minister expressed excitement about the potential of the upcoming “Nkokonkitinkiti” Support Programme, an initiative designed to revitalise the poultry industry.

He expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as his “visionary leadership and continued commitment to transforming Ghana’s agricultural landscape.”

Dr Amoakohene assured that the Ashanti region was ready to take full advantage of the initiative, positioning itself as a national hub for agribusiness, poultry production, and agro-processing innovation.

He reaffirmed the region’s commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to implement sustainable programmes that will empower farmers and strengthen the entire agricultural value chain.
