The fourth edition of the Agritech West Africa exhibition, together with the Agrochem Agro Input Ghana and Agro Process Pack Ghana fairs, has commenced in Accra with a call for stronger collaborations to transform the agricultural sector.
The two-day event, which began on Friday, September 19, at the Accra International Conference Centre, is being held under the auspices of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Hosted by Synergice Events India, the exhibition has drawn support from leading industry associations including the West African Chamber of Agriculture (WACOA), Croplife Ghana, Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana Union of Traders Association, Food and Beverage Association of Ghana, Farmer Organisation Network of Ghana, Federation of Association of Ghanaian Exporters, Guzakuza, and a number of regional farmer cooperatives.
Opening the fair, Harry Bleppony, Deputy Director in charge of Crops Services at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, underlined government’s commitment to leverage agriculture as a driver of economic transformation. He emphasized that agriculture remains central to Ghana’s industrial growth, job creation, and export drive, citing the “Feed Ghana” programme as one of the flagship initiatives.
“The Government of Ghana is dedicated to building strong and strategic partnerships with the private sector in order to improve the investment climate and speed up the transformation of the food and agriculture sector,” he noted.
Also addressing the ceremony, India’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Manish Gupta, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening agricultural cooperation with Ghana. He recalled discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former President John Dramani Mahama during Mr. Modi’s visit in July, which placed agriculture at the heart of bilateral collaboration.
“We are committed to supporting Ghanaian agriculture in every way possible and look forward to working together to make Ghana not only self-sufficient in food but also a breadbasket for the West African sub-region,” Mr. Gupta assured.
Over the course of the two days, the exhibition will highlight the entire agricultural value chain, bringing together about 100 companies from countries including India, Turkey, Nigeria, Ghana, China, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, and Spain.
On display are a wide range of products and technologies such as agrochemicals, irrigation systems, agricultural machinery, biofeeds, food processing and packaging innovations, as well as finished food and beverage products.
More than 4,000 participants representing government institutions, farmer groups, research bodies, trade associations and the private sector are expected to engage in discussions, forge partnerships and explore new solutions to boost agricultural growth in Ghana and beyond.
